We were created by God as a body, soul and spirit. Our soul is made up of our mind, will and emotions. Heart healing is soul care.
Biblical Foundation
The Lord’s mission statement in Isaiah 61:1-3 says: “The Spirit of the Sovereign Lord is on me, because the Lord has anointed me to proclaim good news to the poor. He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted, to proclaim freedom for the captives and release from darkness for the prisoners, to proclaim the year of the Lord’s favor and the day of vengeance of our God, to comfort all who mourn, and provide for those who grieve in Zion— to bestow on them a crown of beauty instead of ashes, the oil of joy instead of mourning and a garment of praise instead of a spirit of despair. They will be called oaks of righteousness, a planting of the Lord for the display of his splendor.”
Our mission in heart healing is to participate in Christ’s mission and to partner with Him in the ministry of reconciliation (2 Corinthians 5: 11-21). We can do this in our individual prayer and connection with the Lord. However, there is power in agreement when we do this with a prayer partner and especially one that is trained biblically and specifically in inner healing and/or deliverance ministry. Here are some verses that encourage this work:
Matthew 18:20 NIV
For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
Galatians 6:2 NIV
Carry each other’s burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.
James 5:16 NIV
Therefore confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person is powerful and effective.
Romans 12:2 NIV
Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God’s will is—his good, pleasing and perfect will.
Psalm 51:6 NKJV
Behold, You desire truth in the inward parts,
And in the hidden part You will make me to know wisdom.
Ezekiel 11:19 NIV
I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.
Psalm 34:18 NIV
The Lord is close to the brokenhearted and saves those who are crushed in spirit.
Proverbs 17:22 NIV
A cheerful heart is good medicine, but a crushed spirit dries up the bones.
Psalm 109:21-22 NIV
But you, Sovereign Lord, help me for your name’s sake; out of the goodness of your love, deliver me. For I am poor and needy, and my heart is wounded within me.
God is a God of Science
Science is merely an observation of God’s creation. God created our brains in two hemispheres. Each hemisphere has identical structures but different functions. We work best when both hemispheres are healthy and work together. The right hemisphere of the brain is the seat of our emotions and is known for experiences we have in life. The left hemisphere of the brain is the seat of our reasoning; it is logical and analytical. When we are emotionally triggered, the left part of the brain is difficult to access while the right part is accessible. When our heart is overwhelmed with feelings, we tend to do what we have learned in order to survive. The logical part of our brain gets hijacked under intense stress and goes online again when a crisis is over. Therefore, methodologies aimed to heal our emotions and renew our mind are key in becoming more whole-hearted. A person’s belief systems and perspectives must be challenged with the Truth of God’s Word in an encounter with His Love. As we develop our emotional capacity, we are able to maintain connection with our logical brain and process life in wholeness.
Joy
We are created for joy! Secular neuroscience says that our brain defines joy as knowing that someone is glad to be with you and you don’t have to earn it. When we spend time in the presence of someone who enjoys being with us without a need for performance, neural pathways in the brain become active and formed while we increase our relational capacity. The more we do this in safe relationships, the more we can tolerate intense situations before our brain-mind system disconnects. Likewise, the more we spend time in the presence of the Lord, the more we become transformed, causing our thoughts to become more like His thought, and even reflecting His emotions. When we choose to engage in regular time with God in a personal way, the byproduct of this relationship builds our maturity both relationally and psychologically.
How does heart healing play into entrepreneurship and the pitfalls we see?
“Heart wounds lead to blindspots.” - Pedro Adao
“Love is the best business strategy.” - Pedro Adao
The healed heart and renewed mind are two significant stakes in the 100x Methodology. Signs of an unhealed heart may include unforgiveness and offense, a need for validation, one-upping, feelings of rejection, insecurity, arrogance and pride, guilt from past poor choices, feelings of unworthiness, and feelings of not belonging. If an entrepreneur struggles with a fear of rejection, he or she may take business offer rejections personally and allow it to become a stumbling block in their professional growth.
Some wrong belief systems may include: unbelief, victim mentality, habitual sin, orphan tendencies, religious mindset, financial problems, scarcity and a poverty mentality. The entrepreneur with an orphan mindset will be constantly concerned about lack. They never feel like they have enough. It can send entrepreneurs into overdrive where they will chase after new ideas and suffer from “shiny object syndrome” and become “serial entrepreneurs” but are financially broke. They believe that their breakthrough is outside of themselves (i.e. networking with a certain person, having special equipment, have a specific event happen to them, etc.) that will somehow be the thing that gives them what they need.
Whereas, a Kingdom entrepreneur believes that everything they already need to live out the calling on their life is already accessible and available inside of themselves through the Holy Spirit, they just have to cultivate it and develop it. They do not have a desperate mindset which is anchored in fear. People were created to operate in love and faith, not in fear. In fact, the human mind has restricted access to intelligence in the prefrontal cortex of the brain when a person operates in fear.
The belief systems an entrepreneur has can take root throughout life, but especially during heart wounds, so as the entrepreneur receives heart healing, he or she can remove lies and break off strongholds. As the mind is renewed, a person will begin to see things differently through a Kingdom perspective and pay attention to their thought life. Any past trauma or wounds must be dealt with because it will create a stumbling block. It is better to deal with these issues when a business is small than to have a big, public fall. The more a person’s heart is healed and mind becomes renewed, the more capacity they have to love and serve people at the highest level.
